Letter In Support Of Mr. Martin
Up to LETTERS TO THE JUDGE FOR SENTENCING

RE: U.S. v Michael Martin/CR-08-000-99
Dear Judge Wilken:
I'm writing to tell you about Mr. Martin, in the hopes your sentencing will be as lenient as possible. Mr. Martin, like scores of others, is working to change federal law regarding medical marijuana. While doing this, he engaged in legal activities in his home state, relating to medical marijuana.
However, there is nothing else in Mr. Martin's background that would mark him as a career criminal or even someone of interest to law enforcement. He is a devoted family man, who loves his children and his wife. He has deep ties to his community, and is a stable, productive member of society.
While the federal government may object to medical marijuana, there is no evidence that Mr. Martin was anything other than a respectable businessman, who ran a clean well organized factory and was abiding by the laws of his home state while doing so.
When the federal government indicted him, Mr. Martin peacefully accepted this decision and has worked in a responsible and positive manner to resolve his legal woes. He has always been respectful of the court and the legal process.
I would deeply appreciate it if you would take the above into consideration, and sentence Mr. Martin to the minimum. There are other things it is in your power to do, such as allow Mr. Martin to pre-surrender to a designated federal facility. I hope you will do them all.
Our country is a great place and our federal government one of the finest institutions in the world. But every once in a while our government makes a mistake. Putting Americans of Japanese descent in camps during WWII, is an example of this. I believe the federal government is mistaken in the position it has taken on medical marijuana, but it takes time to change federal laws.
In the meantime, if you could take notice of Mr. Martin's obviously peaceful and law abiding nature, and punish him no more than is necessary, it would allow him to maintain his faith in his government, while peacefully working towards a change in the federal law.
Mr. Martin is a compassionate man, and I am deeply hopeful you will find it in your heart to be compassionate to him. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Sarah Armstrong

To the Honorable Judge Wilken,
I am Reverend G.M. Roland of Universal Life Ministries.
I am writing to you in regard to an upcoming Sentencing of Mickey Martin.
Mr. Martin has been known to me for almost 5 years, personally and in a caregiving capacity through our ministries.
Mr. Martin has always donated to local causes, such as the local Police Athletic Leagues (Anonymously of course), Community Service (We Cleaned / Repainted 11 Senior Citizen’s houses in 2007), and Christian Family Beliefs.
I cannot interpret the law, that is the job that the Government has thrust upon your shoulders. But I can interpret the Human Heart. Mickey got into helping people after the passage of the Compassionate Use Act of 1996.
When we lost one of our most beloved activists on April 10th 1999 (Brownie Mary Rathbun), Mickey stepped up to help those who were suffering the worst.
I pray that you will find it in your power to temper your Sentencing Judgment with mercy and leniency.
May the good Lord bless and Keep you
Rev. Glenn M. Roland
