Sentencing Letter

Posted by Anonymous at May 29. 2008
To the Honorable Judge Wilken: I'm writing to you on behalf of Michael “Mickey” Martin. I want to add my voice to those who are asking for leniency in his sentencing. My experience with Mickey Martin and Compassion Medicinal Edibles, stems from my time living on 62nd Street in North Oakland. Their kitchen was just down the street from my home. I never once had a problem with their presence in my neighborhood, nor did I ever hear any other neighbors complain about the Compassion kitchen. I point this out because when deciding what punishment Mickey should face, I hope that you will consider his impact on our community. Mickey is not a nuisance nor did he ever pose a threat to our community. On the contrary Mickey is a respectful, productive member of our community. Mickey ran afoul of the law because of his compassion for the sick and dying. He knew that he could help alleviate their suffering with medical marijuana and he could not turn his back on those in need. I hope you will see that his actions, although against federal law, helped many people. Mickey Martin maybe guilty of breaking federal marijuana laws but he is not a criminal, he doesn't deserve to be behind bars. Mickey Martin is a father and husband who should be allowed to stay with his family. Please consider options other than incarceration when deciding Mickey Martin's punishment. No one will benefit from the incarceration of this man. Thank you for your consideration. Sean Luse 6138 Shattuck Ave Oakland, CA 94609
